A Wildflower Maternity & Family Session in Kewaskum, WI | A Beautiful Afternoon for Mom, Baby & Family
There are some maternity sessions that feel like more than just taking beautiful photographs.
They feel like a pause.
A chance for mom to be pampered, celebrated, and reminded that this season deserves to be documented, too.
This beautiful mama came to my private outdoor studio in Kewaskum, Wisconsin for a summer sunset maternity and family session — but this session carried a little extra meaning.
She never had the opportunity to have maternity portraits taken with her first baby.
She arrived earlier than expected, and that chapter of pregnancy passed before she ever had the chance to document it.
So when her sister gifted her a maternity session and an afternoon of pampering, it became so much more than a photography session.
It became a gift she could keep.
A Little Pampering Before the Camera
One of my favorite parts of creating a maternity experience is making sure mom doesn't feel like she has to do everything herself.
Before we stepped into the wildflowers, my professional makeup artist came to my home studio in Kewaskum and got this gorgeous mama all dolled up for her session.
She had already selected two beautiful gowns — including a brand-new gown chosen especially for her soon-to-be baby girl.
And then there was the second gown.
The one she had originally hoped to wear during her first pregnancy but never got the chance to.
Being able to bring that gown back into her maternity story made this session incredibly special.
Sometimes the photographs we create aren't just about what is happening right now.
They're about honoring the moments we didn't get to have the first time.
Mom & Me in the Wildflowers
We started with just mom and her little one while we waited for dad to arrive.
The wildflower field was glowing in that gorgeous summer evening light, and the connection between these two was absolutely contagious.
There were giggles.
Sweet little moments.
The kind of snuggles you want to remember forever.
And those tiny in-between moments that happen naturally when a mama gets to slow down and simply enjoy her child.
That's what I love about family photography.
Yes, we're creating beautiful portraits.
But we're also preserving how it felt to be together.
Daddy-Daughter Moments
Once dad arrived, we snuck in some sweet daddy-daughter portraits before bringing everyone together.
Because someday, this little girl will be able to look back at these photographs and see exactly how loved she was before she even arrived.
Her daddy.
Her mama.
Her family waiting excitedly to meet her.
Those photographs become part of her story, too.
Then We Made It a Family Affair
We finished the evening with the whole family together, capturing the connection, laughter, and excitement surrounding this next chapter.
And, of course, we made time for mom and dad.
Just the two of them.
A few romantic portraits during that beautiful summer sunset — because somewhere between becoming parents and keeping up with everyday life, it's easy to forget that you two are still in there, too.
The smiles were contagious.
The love was flowing.
And the excitement surrounding the arrival of their sweet baby girl was everywhere.
It was one of those evenings where you could feel the anticipation in the air.
Your Maternity Session Should Feel Simple
One of the things I strive for most with every maternity session is making the experience simple, fun, and memorable.
You shouldn't have to wonder what happens next.
You shouldn't have to figure out what to wear, how to pose, or how to make your family cooperate.
And you definitely shouldn't leave wondering what you're supposed to do with all those beautiful images afterward.
From our initial consultation through your session and final design appointment, we plan the experience together.
We talked through the vision.
We selected gowns.
We planned the session.
We created space for family photographs, romantic portraits, and those beautiful mom-and-baby moments.
Then, a few weeks after the session, we met virtually for her design consultation.
Together, we reviewed her portraits and she chose the images that spoke to her heart — along with custom heirloom products she wanted to proudly display in her home.
Because your maternity photographs shouldn't have to live forgotten on a computer.
They deserve a place in your home and in your family's story.
Cedarburg & Mequon Moms — Your Story Deserves to Be Documented
If you're a mama in Cedarburg, Mequon, West Bend, Kewaskum, or the greater Milwaukee area, and you're expecting a little one, I'd love to create a maternity experience that feels just as special as this season of your life.
Whether this is your first baby or you're welcoming another little love, your story is worth documenting.
Even if you didn't get the chance the first time.
Even if your first baby came early.
Even if you're thinking, "I don't know if I'm really a maternity-picture person."
You might be surprised by how beautiful it feels to slow down and celebrate you.
And when that sweet baby finally arrives?
You'll have more than photographs.
You'll have a tangible reminder of the woman, mama, and family you were in the moments before everything changed.
